ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

AUCKLAND, Feb 4. The inquiry was resumed to-day into the death cf James Porter, who was killed on January 26th while engaged in the erection of a signal post near Henderson railway station. The Ccrcner announced a verdict of "Death due to injuries received by falling from a signal post." Harry Johnston had, in the opinion of Mr Cutten, given his evidence quite frankly and straight-for-wardly, and made no attempt to evade his responsibility; that the cause of the accident was the omission of Johnston to comply with the railway regulations; and that the omission was an omission to discharge a legal duty amour tine <o culpable negligence.
