MR E. G. WILSON; W.e learn with regret of tho projected departure from our. midst of the local stationmaster, Mr-E. G. Wilson, who, having completed 40 service in the railway, is retiring on j well-earned superannuation , Mr Wilson joined the service on January Bth, 1875, as clerk at Rangiora (Christchurch), his next position being telegraphist at Selwyn, and later at Rangatata. Five years after- join-' ing the service he was appointed stationmaster at Ealing, From thence he was transferred in turn to Washdyke, Burnham, Albury, Fairlie, Leeston, Greymouth, Brunner, Feilding, Woodville, Nelson (stationmaster in'charge of district), Invercargill and Taihape, where he had the responsible charge of the train-running for the district between Obakune and Marton until the appointment of a Traffic Manager at Obakune. . Mr Wilson, who lias norv resided in Taihape for the past eight years, took, an ardent interest in local affairs and has been in his official capacity as well as in private life, a boon friend to the public, his good nature, sociability; and good will towards all gaining for him many a warm friend in Taihape. The whole district will feel the loss of such a splendid citizen. He has been an enthusiastic churchman, and in his connection with the Church of England as a vestryman and warden to the present vicar has done splendid work. He is also a member of the C.E.M.S. Mr Wilson took active interest in sports and athletics, and was at one time president of the Bowling Club, and-an enthusiastic player, being recognised as one of the leading skips of the Club. In consideration of his services to the C l ub' he was made a life member; lie was vke president of the Taihape Rugby Union, and president of the Railway and Albion club. -Mr Wilson has been a keen rifleman, ,nd was at one time captain of the Nelson Defence Rifle Club. Mr Wilson will relinquish bis'duties on Thursday next, but will not leave the district until;, the end of the following week. He purposes, residua'in Christchurch.
