ROME, Jan. 17. j The disaster surpasses Messina in] the low percentage of survivors. Only two or three per cent escaped at Avezzano, while thirty per cent, sftrvived at Messina. Rescuers at Sora found seven nuns and a priest killed at an altar during communion. Sixty bodies were found in the diningrocm of a girls' college at Avezrano. Seven-eighths of the population at Massadalbe and the majority of • tile population at Chercois were killed, large numbers being buried in churches Much damage was dene at Subiaco, including the Benedictine Abbey. ,' ,-Seven hundred bodies were recovered at Sora. DEATH ROLL OVER 44,000. TOWNS GROUND TO DUST. (Rood. S p.m..) ROME, Jan 16. It is estimated that 1000 are dead of ISOO inhabitants of the Avezzano Patorno district. Six hundred cut of 1600 are dead at Larnpelinc, which has been practically wiped cut. Capella is one heap of ruins. The latest estimate is that 30,000 are dead at Azruzzi, including 14,000 in the Avezzano district. The Countess of Resta and five sons were rescued alive at Avezzano. The Count clung to the'ruins of the palace. He spurned condolences and worked tenaciously for two day-, and''nights to extricate his family. RUINED TOWNS. . . ROME, Jan. IG. Half cf Hagliano di Marsi has been destroyed, and there are 1300 dead. Three parts of Pescina are destroyed, and there are 4000 dead. There are 3000 buried in the ruins of San Bencletti.
