AVIATOR'S MARVELLOUS EXPLOIT

GETS BEHIND HELIGOLAND,

BOMBS GERMAN WARSHIP

(Reed. .915 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Jan. 1

Aviator Hewlett, interviewed, said he ran into a thick fog and found himself in the vicinity of the Schleswig coast. He bore down behind Cuxhaven, over German territory. When the fog cleared he had lost his bearings. He flew over the great German fleet and a number of trawlers behind Heligoland. A terrific fire opened on him. He dropped several bombs and he believes he hit a warship as he saw smoke rising from her later. His motor then ran hot and he was forced to descend. Pie alighted near a Dutch trawler. He sunk his seaplane before leaving.
