THE POSITION IN AFRICA
CONSCRIPTION ADOPTED,
PRETORIA, Jan. 1. The Government announces that it is resorting to the use of the powers given under the Defence Act to commandeer hi German Se-uth,-vVest Africa and the Union. I t adds that the situation which has arisen cannot adequately be met by depending on v o luntter recruits. The Union troops re-occupied Walfish Bay on Christmas Day, unopposed.
