WHEAT IN AUSTRALIA.

As a result of it being discovered that some wheat was arriving in Sydney it was shipped out of the Stale. The Government proclaimed all wheat arriving in the Metropolis to be Government property.

iMr. Pearce (Minister for Defence) has received from Mr. Deane, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, a cheque for £IOO as a present to the crew of the Sydney, in recognition of their luck and pluck in capturing the Emden.

In the Assembly, Mr. Eiuslie stated that the loss at the Maffra sugar factory last year totalled £10,304, Th® Minister for Agriculture declared that if the loses of the previous year were repeated this year the Government would not again ask Parliament to repeat the experiment.
