The quantity scld in Australia in the first half of the statistical year shows a falling off of nearly four hundred thousand bales, the cash value of which is four million six hundred thousand. Mr Hall, commenting on the wheat position stated he was considering a cable frcm the Premier of New Zealand, asking for a loan of wheat until he ' imports from Canada or Argentine. He was not averse to the proposal. The High Court awarded Alfred Huddy, a miner, £1,900 (record) damages for injuries he received by a fall of stone while employed by the Hampden Ccnelurry Mining Company. Huddy fractured his skull, both jaws were broken, three ribs cracked, left leg shattered, and the right arm badly mangled, which had to be amputated. Huddy's recovery is regarded as a surgical miracle.
