A ROTORUA MOTOR ACCIDENT. CATHOLIC PRIEST SERIOUSLY INJURED. ROTORUA, Dec. 15. Dean Lightheart, Roman Catholic Priest, met with a serious accident yesterday on the Waiotapu Road, six miles from Rotorua. He was driving in a motor alone when the car ran over the bank, rolling over on to him and crushing him badly.. He was. found unconscious soon after. FATAL SHOOTING ACCIDENT. INGLEWOOD, Dec. 15. A fatal accident occurred here last night. A b®y named Taylor, 19 years old, picked up a pea rifle to shoot a hare. He was not aware of its being loaded. On going out of the house he saw it was full cock. He snapped the trigger and was astounded to hear a report and to see his little brother, nine years old, fall. A doctor was called, who sent the boy to the New Plymouth Hospital, where he died a few hours later. The boy had seen the rifle cleaned and put away empty: ,on Wednesday. It is nn,known -how it became loaded. THE EXPORT OF HIDES. i .. • A PROHIBITION. WELLINGTON. Dec. 15. A proclamation was gazetted to-day prohibiting the export of hides and sheep skins from this dominion to other than British or other specified ports.
FIRE IN A TIMBER YARD. • CHRISTCHURCH ,Dec. 15. A joinery shop and milling shed, forming part of the Goss timber yard, Perborcugh Street, was totally destroyed by fire early this evening. The damage is estimated at from four to five thousand pounds, and is covered by insurance. Nothing is known as to the cause of the outbreak. WASHED OVERBOARD. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 15. John Stanley (sail-maker on the barque Irene) from Malden Island, was washed overboard and drowned ten days before the vessel made port.
