STOLE METAL
Up for sentence on six charges of stealing metal valued at £7 Ss and an 11-year-old charge of stealing a gun valued at £lO, Walter James Charlton, a metal polisher, was admitted to probation for two years by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., and ordered to make restitution of £7 Bs. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused, who pleaded guilty earlier in the week, had stolen the metal from where he was working and sold it to r« dealer. The theft of the gun took place In 1919 at Tinui, when accused was "swagging’# with a companion. Mr. Bainbridge asked for leniency, as accused was a married man with three dependants.
