BANDITS GET £3OO

BANK OFFICER FELLED WITH IRON BAR ROBBERY IN DAYLIGHT MELBOURNE, Friday. There was a robber)’ in broad daylight today at Brunswick, a northern suburb of Melbourne. Armed men entered tile branch of the Bank of New South Wales and held up two officers, one of whom, Mr. Martin, was hit on the head with a piece of iron. Mr. W. Brooks, the bank teller, fired shots at the bandits, who escaped in a taxi-car with £3OO. The robbery occurred while the manager was away at luncheon. The robbers ordered Mr. Brooks and MiMartin to put up their hands. Then they struck Mr. Martin’s head with a piece of piping, felling him to the ground. The money was gathered up by the robbers, who rushed away, followed by Mr. Brooks, who fired several shots, one of which shattered the windscreen of the taxi-car, the driver of which was apparently not aware of the character of his passengers. The driver was bundled off his seat to the road. His cab was driven awav by one of the thieves. It was abandoned in a side street, and notes to the value of £IOO were found on the seat. Mr. Martin has had to have several stitches put, in the wound in his head
