THINKING OF HIM

Dear Miss Rutledge,— I have read your column each week with much interest, and now ask your help in my own little difficulty. I used to be friendly with a young man, and thought a lot of him, although I never really showed this, as it is my nature to hide my feelings. Through a fault of mine we had a quarrel and have not been together since. I still thinli ' more of him than I do of any other, ! and 1 think that he still admires me as he is always so charming when we meet. We are both friendly with other people now, but I think of him all the time. I would like to know if it is right for me to apologise for being nasty to him, and whether I should show him that I still care forhim as he is rather shy? WORRIED. ANSWER j It would seem that much of your happiness depends upon the smiles of this young man, and as you are at fault, I think that you should spare no effort to clear up the misunderstanding, at your earliest opportunity. Why not invite him to your home to dinner (give special forethought to the menu) and after he feels at peace with the world, tactfully open up the subject. With quiet dignity explain how you feel about things generally; how much you regret being in the wrong, and wish that your friendship could be restored and run along as before. After you have made yourself clear, leave it to him to make the next move. ANNE RUTLEDGE.
