AUXILIARY HOSPITAL
“CINTRA” WILL NOT BE ACQUIRED “EXPENSE UNWARRANTED” The reason why officers of the Department of Health have reported unfavourably on the Hospital Board’s proposal <o purchase “Cintra,” Symonds iStreet, for additional accommodation is that the expense is unwarranted, said tho secretary of the board, Mr. H. A. Somerville, this morning. The board, at its meeting yesterday, deceived notification of tlie department’s unfavourable reports and on the recommendation of its Finance Committee decided not to proceed with the scheme.
“The trustees of the ‘CintrV estate were willing to let the board 'have the place for £ 14,000,” said Mr. Somerville. “The building, however, is in such a condition that the board would have had to find another £5,000 before it would be habitable. Tlie Department of Health realised that, and its officers have reported adversely.”
