A QUIET MORNING FEW GALLOPS Training operations were very # quiet indeed at the Takanini course this 'morning, the majority of trainers restricting their charges to pace work, there being few gallops against the watch, despite the fact that the Avondale meeting is but four days oIT. : St. Ames cleared two schooling j hurdles nicely, this having been Hiis j schedule for the past few 1 galloping The three Leighton three-year-olds, Roseric, Royal Artist and High Comedy. were let off with pace work. Refresher and Ti Tree, after going a mile of pace work, ran half a mile comfortably. Refresher is improving. Hava spot, who is coming to hand fast, accompanied Dominican in a similar task. White Wings completed five furlongs nicely. Top Star doing the same work. King’s Speech and Envoy were sent six furlongs, the time being 1.21 2-5, with the latter again shaping impressively. Gay Cavalier strode over three furlongs in 44. Prince of Oronge finished up a mile and a-half of pace work with a threefurlong sprint, taking 40. He infused plenty of dash into his effort and was running on smoothly at the end. It is more than likely that Prince of Orange will take on the Avondale Cup in preference to the shorter race on Saturday. Rosshire was set to do a mile of pace work and wound up his task nicely. Treasury also did good pace work.
