BANKRUPT BUTCHER
DISCHARGE TO BE DELAYED From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. Efforts to unravel the tangled affairs of Percival Frarcis Bayley. a young butcher, formerly of Huntly. were made by creditors at a meeting before the official assignee, Mr. V. R. Crowhurst, today. Bankrupt’s schedule showed debts £32S and assets £75, a deficiency of £253. According to his statement, bankrupt first got into debt to stock agents, when his business at Huntly was difficult to run owing to pricecutting. Later, he* exchanged a business at Pukemiro, entering into an agreement to manage the shop and get a half-share of the profits. Bankrupt claimed That the present occupier of the shop was using his plain. but refused to acknowledge bankrupt’s claim to a half-share. A solicitor for one of the creditors described the bankruptcy as a good example of what happens when a man’s books are improperly kept. The assignee said that bankrupt made a mistake in failing to have the agreements in writing. He expressed the opinion that the discharge should be delayed until bankrupt had paid some dividend.
A resolution supporting the assignee’s recommendation was carried.
