MISSING PRISONER

NON-APPEARANCE FOR SENTENCE JUDGE WANTS INFORMATION The non-appearance in the Supreme Court today of Albert Ellery for sentence on charges of breaking, entering and theft, provoked some comment. Explaining that the prisoner had not turned up, the Crown Prosecutor, Mr. V. R. Meredith, added that the file did not. show whether the man had been bailed. It might not be the prisoner’s fault that he was not present, as he was at Te Puke and might, not have been notified to attend that day. Commenting that it was extraordinary there was no record of Ellery having been bailed, his Honour requested the Crown Prosecutor to instruct the police, in making reports on prisoners,, to supply him with a list of pevious convictions and ages. This information used to be supplied at one time, but it was only with difficulty he obtained it now, added his Honour.

The case was stood over until tomorrow morning to permit of police inquiries concerning the prisoner.
