AUCKLAND SYNAGOGUE

ASSISTANT MINISTER ARRIVES THE REV. J. ADLER A representative gathering of members of the Hebrew congregation attended at the Auckland station this morning to extend a welcome to the Rev. J. Alder, who has been appointed assistant to Rabbi. S. A. Goldstein at the Auckland Synagogue. Mr. Alder, who was accompanied by his wife and two children, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Ruapehu, and came on to Auckland immediately by the limited express. At the station, Mr. Alder was met by the Rabbi and a committee representative of the various organisations connected with the Synagogue, headed by Mr. X. Alfred Nathan, president of the Auckland Hebrew Congregation. Others present were Messrs I. Melclier (secretary) Charles Nathan, C. Moses, M. Phillips, L. Marks. M. Paykel, S. Green, S. Reynolds. Mrs. G. Pezaro, representing the Ladies’ Benevolent society, and Miss Ziman (Zionist Welfare League), were also present. Mr. Adler, who was born at Gates-liead-on-Tyne, Durham, qualified 12 years ago at the Manchester Theological College, when he was only 18 years of ago. Jle had a distinguished scholastic career and for more than five years lias been minister at North London Synagogue. An official welcome will be extended by the congregation at the Click Clack Cabaret next Thursday evening.
