AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS The second round of the Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship was continued last evening, when W. E. Hackett. Auckland, defeated E. J. Morrison, Pukekohe. by 134 points. Keen interest was taken in the match, there being a large number of spectators, including several women. Hackett had slightly the better of the play in the opening stages by making a well-played hazard break of 47. He passed the first hundred mark with a slight lead of four points. A break of 20 by Morrison gave him the lead, but it was only momentary, as Hackett excelled in a correctly -played red ball hazard break of 55. Hackett gained a good lead by adding runs of 37 and 25. the score at this stage being 232 to 138 in his favour. Morrison gained ground in an «*xcellent red ball break of 48. Further breaks of 23 and 26 by Hackett enabled him to maintain his lead. Morrison added a run of 21, but was playing without lurk. The run of the balls, however, did not favour either player. A bout of safety tactics followed, neither player gaining any advantage. Hackett excelled in a red-ball breaK of 60. which made his score 490. He gained the required score at his next visit.
