TRANSPORT BILL
INTRODUCTION WANTED THIS SESSION ! DEPUTATION TO MR. RANSOM Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. | A strong plea for -the introduction | of the Transport Bill this session was j made to the Acting - Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, today, by a | deputation representing motor unions, j chambers of commerce, the Motor ! Traders’ Association, the Master Carriers’ Association, motor-omnibus comi panies, and motor service proprietors. I Mr. A. B. Knight, representing ser- ! vice car proprietors, said they were i satisfied that co-ordination of all j transport was essential to avoid waste, I reckless competition, and undue use of the highways, and that proper : legislation was necessary, j Mr. Ransom said the matter would | be referred to Cabinet. It had not been intended to bring down'the Trans- ! port Bill this year, as it was regarded ;as contentious. The present was a : difficult time to bring down such legislation. Mr. Knight said it was not a party matter. Mr, Ransom: We do not regard it as that, but the Government must stand behind any Bill it brings down. A member of the deputation urged Mr. Ransom to give a definite reply, but ho declined to do so at that stage.
