DEPARTMENT WILL NOT SHIFT IT NEAR TAKANINI BRIDGE The Post and Telegraph Department has refused to move the telegraph pole on the northern side of the Takanini Bridge, which is considered to be dangerous by the Auckland Automobile . Association. A letter was received from the district telegraph engineer at last evening’s meeting of the association, pointing out that the pole #as at len.-t . seven feet from the edge of the concrete. or at least four feet from the tarred strip of macadam, and was not a menace to public si 1 ty. It would be a costly job to move the polo. “The department may be right, but nevertheless three cars have struck it,” , said the president. Mr. A. Grayson. | "We have done all we can to protect motorists' lives, even to placing a red reflector on the post.” Mr. F. G. Farrell said that one fife had already been lost in an accident at the post. Mr. G. Henning suggested that tho A.A.A. should pay half the cost of shifting the pole. “It would be a dangerous precedent.” ! said the chairman. “It is really a. mat - . tor between the department and the Manurewa Town Board. The ]»• -t should be placed nearer the fence.” Mr. M. H. Wynyard suggested th. t the matter be referred to the Main I Highways Board, which would probably be Willing to take it up.
