NEW RAILWAYS
COMMITTEE SET UP TO INVESTIGATE APPOINTED BY HOUSE TODAY THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter P ARBI AME N T BBDGS., Today. On tho motion of tho Acting-Prime Minister, tho Hon. E. A. Ransom, a Parliamentary Committee to investigate railways at present under construction was set up by tho House of Representatives this afternoon. It is understood that the order of reference will include land settlement and development, convenience to the public, the Ijunances of the Railway Department, tiro relative cost offroad and rail transport, and harbour development. The committee will comprise the following: Tho Minister of Railways, the I Lon. W. A. Veitch, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, and the following members of Parliament: Mr. J. T. 1 Logan (Ka.ngit.ikei), Mr. E. .J. Howard (Christchurch South), Mr. E. F. Mealy (Wairau), Mr. W. J. Jordan (Manukau). Mr. F. Bye (Waikato), Air. D. Jones (Mid-Canterbury), Mr. C. E. Macmillan (Tauranga) and Mr. F. Waite (Clutha).
