SKELETONS FOUND

BELIEVED TO BE MAORI WARRIORS SITE OF MANY FIGHTS Special to TUB SUN TE PUKE, Tuesday. Skeletons in a perfect state of preservation were discovered on the Sand Hills, Long Beach, Otamarakau, yesterday. They had apparently been unearthed by the gales which have been pronounced in this district during recent weeks. The bones are believed to be at least 60 years old and are most probably of native origin. The locality, according to Maori history, was the scene of many tribal battles and is in the vicinity of the original lauding spot of the noted “Hongi." One skeleton was complete, even to a perfect set of teeth in both top and bottom jaws. It is probable that these members of the native race had fallen in battle, as some of the limbs were broken. » A small “mere” was also found near the skeletons. ,
