MAORI ELECTION
MR. H. H. PIAHANA AN ACTIVE CAMPAIGNER VISIT TO SOUTHERN AREA From Our Own Correspondent TAURANGA, Today. Though the last candidate in the Western Maori election to be announced officially, Mr. H. H. Piahana (Reform), of Tauranga, has been easily the most active campaigner up to the present time. He has just returned to Tauranga after a visit to Taranaki, where he gave an address to a large assembly of tribespeopl© at Waitara. He also addressed natives in the Wanganui district and one important speech was given at Ratana Pa to the followers of Tahu Wiremu Ratana, who are an Influential force in the electorate. Mr. Piahana states that he was accorded excellent receptions everywhere. The interest among the Maoris in all places was particularly keen. Before he began his Southern tour. Mr. Piahana gave speeches to the Tauranga district tribes of Nga’i-Te Rangi and Nga’i-Te Ranginui at Judea Pa. He also spoke in the Rotorua district and in the Waikato before the representatives of important tribes. During the week-end. Mr. Piahana addressed a largo meeting at Bethlehem Pa.
