SHOW EXPENSES

A. AND P. ASSOCIATION S ANNUAL MEETING SEASON’S ACTIVITIES “This association is the oldest of its kind in New Zealand, and one of the oldest institutions in Auckland.” said the president, Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell, at the 77th annual meeting of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held yesterday. On© of the most notable features of the past season had been the sale of tho Otahuhu property of 37 acres, which had been sold at a most satisfactory price. This sale had r 4 ulted in a new showground reserve account being opened with a sum of £11,739 credited to it. This money would be used for the sole purpose of acquiring a new ground. Continuing, Mr. Mitchell said that another interesting event during the season was the transfer of the show from spring to autumn, and a threedays’ show had been brought in to replace a two-days’ show. This departure would be given a fair trial bji holding another three-days’ show this year. There was a necessity to curtail expenses, and there was a possibility of reduction in expenses in connection with night entertainment during the show. LARGER PROFIT NEEDED Although the show held last year was a good one, the association 'was no doing as well as it might from » financial point of view, and it was t< bo recognised that larger net profit:

were necessary, owing to the possibility of a show being held in wet weather. In this respect it was necessary to establish a reserve fund. After considering the items of expenditure in connection with the last show, the council held that a saving of between £6OO and £7OO might be made. Mr. Mitchell was re-elected president and Mr. S. Hamlin and Mr. S. Auistin Carr were again appointed vice-presidents. The election of 15 members of the council resulted: Messrs. G. Bickerton Fisher. J. P. Ivalaugher. M. B. Kirktride. XV. J. Lopdell. M. G. McArthur, 11. D. McLennan. J. Meyer. W. J. W. Pascoe, A. J. Stratford. A. A. Swaffield. Jas. Wylie. John Wyllie. A. Watkins. A. C. A. Sexton. F. Waters.
