The Taumarunui postmaster, Mr. A. B Card, reports that the total rainfall for August was 5.48 in, with a maximum fall of 1.39 in on the 4tli. Mr. W. H. Davys, registrar of births, deaths and marriages, reports: Births, i): deaths. G; marriages, 2. The balance sheet of the Ohura A.P.H. and I. Association (inc.), shows a credit of £282 on the past year’s working. A request from the Board of Agriculture for an expression of opinion on the question of admitting stoek from Great Britain, in view of foot and mouth disease, will be considered at the association's annual meeting. Mr. D. McKay, who for the past three years has been head teacher of the Ohura District High School, has been promoted to the office of agricultural instructor for the Taranaki Education Board, recently made vacant by the removal on promotion of Mr. It. G. Ridling During his stay in the district Mr. McKay has raised educational matters to a very high standard, and in sports circles also he will be greatly missed.
Two members of the Taumarunui Racing Club have each donated £lO toward assisting the club out of its present financial difficulty. Jt is hoped further similar generous assistance will be forthcoming.
