LOBENGULA’S TREASURE
JOHANNESBURG EXPEDITION’S QUEST Au expedition, led by Mr. Lloyds Ellis, a business man ot Johannesburg, has just returnee] from the search for the lost treasure of King Lobengula. The treasure was believed to have been hidden in the bush, somewhere east of Bulawayo, shortly before the Matabele King fled before Jameson’s forces. Tt consisted of gold, ivory and diamonds, valued at approximately £2,000,000. After concealing the treasure, Lobegula was said to have ordered his Matabele digging party to be assegied while they slept, lest they should divulge the secret of the cache. This order was carried out, in the night by four old If admen. Soon after Lobengula himself fled before Jameson and died near the Zambesi. i The treasure was regarded as sacroI sanct by the InN ns, only one of whom survives today. Mr. Lloyd Ellis discovered the kraal of this suri vivor, but found him semi-inibecile j and unable to answer questions iutellij gently. However, he secured importI ant additional evidence and now pro- : poses to resume his search toward the end of the year.
