WAITAKI POWER SCHEME
RUMOUR OF FAULTS IN FOUNDATIONS PROF. HORNELL TO REPORT TUP SU2PS Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS.. Thurs. Rumours as to faulfs In the foundations of the Waitaki hydro-electric-power scheme site were denied today in the House by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who Avas questioned on the point by Mr. J. A. Macpherson (United —Oamaru). Mr. Macpherson asked Avhether the Minister had heard rumours or had had reports that the foundations were faulty, and he suggested that Professor P. J. Hornell, who was investigating Arapuni, should investigate Waitaki also. In reply, the Minister stated that he had not heard ’any rumours, nor had he had any unfavourable reports from the engineers. However, he had made arrangements for Professor Hornell to inspect both Waikaremoana and Waitaki after he had completed his work at Arapuni, and to make a report to the Government.
