BRIDGE SCHEME

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION COMPANY PROJECT DISCUSSED Though the question ot the appointment ot a new president to fill the position left vacant by the resignation o£ Mr. R. H. Grevilie was considered at last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association, it was decided that the committee had no power to elect a president. The matter was adjourned in the meantime. Several prospective presidents were mentioned and it was decided that an extraordinary meeting ot the association would have to he called to deal with the matter. Mr. Greville’s verbal resignation was received. Mr. It. J. 15. Tonar was elected to the office ot vice-president. The secretary reported on the work accomplished by the deputation, consisting of Messrs. C. H. M. Wills, A. Marks, Mr. Jones, of Jones and Adams, and the secretary, Captain Asbdowne. The deputation was thanked tor the report, which was adopted. COMPANY BEING FORMED “A company is being formed to consi met the bridge.” said Mr. C. H. Wills. “It is now almost ready to be incorporated and a number of people are coming forward for shares.” The secretary reported that 250 £1 shares had now been taken and it was likely that the necessary working funds would be raised without difficulty. Mr. Wills sai’d the company would go to allotment on 500 shares. Mr. Jones said it would be a good idea to reduce the cost of the bridge by substituting two spans of 600 feet for one central span of SOO feet. The Hon. J. B. Donald wrote stating that difficulty might arise in respect of the title to part of the foreshore and bed of the sea on either side, where it was proposed to cross. These were vested in the Auckland Harbour Board and the bed of the ocean between was vested in the Crown. Both authorities would have to consent.
