HORSES FOR MARTON

TRENTHAM SUPPLIES A LIKELY DOZEN DALY’S BIG TEAM There will be about a dozen Trentham horses engaged at the Wanganui and Marton meetings, and many have already left for Wanganui, at which centre they will be accommodated till both fixtures are over. T. J. Daly has gone up with Hynanna, Courageous, Sir Limond, Shortly, Pat’s Boy, Miss Hastings and a couple of two-year-olds. It is a big team and the prospects are not as rosy as they were a few weeks back. Hynanna failed badly at Dannevirke. He \vas not at all well served in the running, but even so will have to do a lot better to win a good stake. Courageous is the hope of the side. He finished like a railway train in the mile and a-quarter event at Dannevirke. and xvjll have to be reckoned with at Marton. Sir Limond is very promising, but might need a race. Pat's Boy has a very fair chance in the Trial Plate at Marton. Shortly did not look right at Dannevirke, and ran* below his best. Imported Hack Auckland Gas, who figures among the maidens to race at Marton this week, is an Australian purchase made by Mr. H. Brown last season. He will accompany Limosin to the meeting. Pandia is reported to have done well since she ran at the Manawatu Winter Meeting, and if she has improved she will be one of the dangerous division in the Marton Trial Plate on Saturday. She has a nice turn of speed, and ran prominently at Awapuni. though obviously green. The good-looking Rossendale three-year-old Appledore, who has been quartered at Wanganui for some time past, is to be a starter among the Trial Platers at Marton. He looks very well, but as this will be his first race for a considerable time, he will not be expected to do as well as he undoubtedly will a little later in the season. Paratoo was sore in front when seen at Wanganui last week, but if a cracked hoof he was carrying mends sufficiently he will be a runner in the Trial Plate at Marton. Although he has run out of the hack class, Taranto is running out the hack engagements which were made for him before he exceeded the stake limit. He is so speedy over short courses, and such a good weight-ca.rrier that he has a chance in the Electric Hack Handicap, which is run over five furlongs, at the Marton meeting.
