TENNIS MEETING
MELROSE PARK CLUB The annual meeting of the Melrose Park Tennis Club, at Devonport last evening, was well attended. Mr. T. Carr Knright presided. The annual report showed that the finances of the club were flourishing, and that as a mark of appreciation of the Melrose Park committee in meeting the needs of tennis players the club had 'defrayed the cost of erecting swings for children on the park. The courts were being laid down in permanent material for this season’s play. Mr. A. Boldero offered a cup for competition, and Mr. G. B. Scotland presented “stars” for a doubles competition. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, the Hon. E. W. Alison; president Captain F. P. Flinn; vice-president, Dr. H. C. Bennett, Messrs. A. Boldero, T. Carr Enright, A. Davis, S. TI. Lyon, I. Massey, M. Morgan, G. B. Scotland, L. Spiriley, F. Sullivan, T. Walsh; club captain, Mr. A. J. Williams; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. Wilson; hon. auditor, Mr. A. J. Muirhead; committee, Misses P. Dickey, L. Latimer, M. Porter, B. Ross, H. Sommerville, Messrs. L. Bates, R. S. Dickey, W. Robertson, W. Turner, F. Williams. A vote of thanks was tendered Mr. and Mrs. F. Sullivan for giving the* use of their home for social evenings and meetings ol' the club.
ELLERSLIE PARISH CLUB A strong financial position was disclosed by the balance sheet presented at the sixth annual meeting of the Ellerslie Parish Lawn Tennis Club. The following oilicers \yere elected: President. Rev. R. J. Stanton; vice-pre-sident, Mr. E. C. Brown; management committee, Messrs; Hansen, Peek, Sorncrfield; bon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Henry: hon. auditor. Mr. E. M. J. Litt; club captain, Mr. Hansen; selectors, Miss .Peek, Mr. Hansen; delegate to Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. Peek. In recognition of bis services in the formation of the club, and as a member of the management committee for the past six years, Air. J. H. Clayton was elected the first life member. lt was decided to enter again two teams in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s inter-club competitions, one each in the C and IJ grades. The courts will be opened officially for the season on October 4.
