BAYSWATER YACHTSMEN

BOATING CLUB’S POLICY FOSTERING SMALL BOATS The future policy of the Takapuna Boating Club will be to cuter more for the smaller class of boat and for youthful yachtsmen than for the big yachts. The report presented at the annual meeting last evening revealed a falling-off in entries in the larger classes. The retiring commodore, Mr. J. J. Mackay, presided. The report stated that for financial reasons the committee decided to cater more for the smaller type of boats, particularly the 12ft 6in one-design class. Four days were devoted to general racing and 11 to class Z. The annual contest for the Cornwell Cup was held at Dunedin and resulted in the cup being retained by the Takapuna Club. The special Cornwell Cup fund showed a good credit balance and the thanks of the club were due to all who had assisted it financially. The membership now stood at 172 life and 150 yearly members. The slipway had been enlarged and when finished should accommodate fully twice the number of boats. The rewiring of the clubhouse would have to be carried out at a very early date and when completed a big saving would be made on the lighting cost of the building.

The death of Mr. C. P. Lock, who had been a warm supporter of the club, was also referred to in the report. As a mark of respect to his memory all present stood in silence.

totalling £412 and expenditure £451, leaving a debit balance of £39, was shown in the balance sheet. The receipts included £ll4 from dances, £l9 from hauling out fees, £33 from rent of clubhouse. £2l from donations and £lB from the women’s committee. The principal items of expenditure were £ 100 for dances, £4£ for prizes, £-27 for the slipway, £lO for billiards, £l6 for insurance and £4O for general expenses. The balance of assets over liabilities amounted to £3,977.

The election of officers resulted as follows: —Vice-patrons, Messrs. A. Harris, M.P., O. Moller and W. Bloomfield; commodore, Mr. 'W\ Johnson; vice-commodore, Mr. C. Hoverd; rearcommodore, J. Opperman: clubhouse captain, Mr. R. Lidgard; secretary, pro tern., Mr. C. G. Blackwell; assist-ant-secretary, Mr. J. Peters; treasurer, Mr. J. Craig; committee, Messrs. W. •T. Burnett, F. G. Fortzer. J. J. Mackay, K. Burnett, F. Skerritt, J. Waddell, S. Powell, S. Scheogis, J. M. Thompson and J. O’Dell; auditors, Messrs. P. G. Easson and R. White.

Mrs. R. Lidgard and Mr. J. J. Mackay were elected hon. life members of the club in appreciation of services rendered.

A presentation of a case of cutlery was made to Mr. C. G. Blackwell, who has held the position of secretary for the past two yesfrs.
