DEVONPORT BOROUGH
RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYMENT Tho Devonport Borough Council last evening discussed in committee a proposal by the Melrose Park Committee to relieve unemployment in the borough by taking advantage of the Government's offer of £2 for £1 subsidy on money set aside for that purpose. The committee suggested that work costing approximately £2,000 be undertaken, of which Devonport would find about £7OO. The question will be fully discussed by the council and members of the park committee next Wednesday. Mr. F. J. 11. Ellisdon, who occupied the chair in the absence of the DeputyMayor, reported that in company with the engineer, he had inspected the concrete penetration process of road-mak-ing that the Waitemata County Council is employing on the reconstruction of the Albany Road. "It is a splendid job,” was Mr. Eilisdon’s verdict. It was decided that the method of tarring and sanding was meeting present requirements, but the engineer was instructed to include, in the next estimates an experimental strip of the new system.
