ST. GEORGE'S, EPSOM
At the opening of a sale of work in SR. George’s Hall, Ranfurly Road Hast, yesterday afternoon, it was reported that last year’s, function had yielded a pro lit of £2OO, which had gone toward the church organ. With the help of several other sums, the price of the organ, £BOO, would be practically paid by the time it was installed, in October. The sale was opened yesterday by Lady Ann Walpole, the little daughter of the Earl and Countess of Orford, and it concluded today. Apologies were received from the Countess of Orford. the Mayoress of One Tree Hill and the Mayoress of Auckland. The chair was taken by Master Lionel Litt, son of the vicar of St. George’s. On behalf of the Women’s Guild, Miss Mary Carter presented Lady Ann with a souvenir made of New Zealand wood. A bouquet was presented by Miss Noeline. Dernier. During the afternoon the Auckland Gas Company held cooking demonstrations, and a number of items was given, including a duet by Messrs. 13. Laird and T. Wilson, and fancy dances by pupils of Madame Edith Baird. Stallholders were as follow;—Guild stall, Mrs. Preston Chambers, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Tronson; children’s stall. Mrs. Whitaker; fancy stall, Mrs. Collins and Miss Bailey; half-crown stall. Mrs. Petrie; girls’ club stall. Miss Rogers, Miss Roberts. Miss H. Cave and Miss Smith; produce stall. Mrs. Bowden, Mrs. MacKenzie, Miss Massie and Miss Mackenzie: sweet stall. Mrs. J. L. Litt, Miss Litt, ATiss Burleigh, Miss McCathie and Miss Cave: cake stall, Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Rowntree and Mrs. Bailey; refreshments were in the charge of Mrs. .Tones. Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Pountney and Mrs. Duflin.
