SKELETONS ONLY

CONFLICTING REPORTS OF POLAR FIND BODIES OF BALLOONISTS Reed. 11.20 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. A message from Nana states it is now clear that the first reports of the discoveries of the bodies of S. A. Andree and his companions, the Swedish polar balloonists, were much exaggerated. Dr. Horn declares that only bones and clothes were left. There was no doubt that the discovery was genuine. Andree’s skull was not found, but the body was identified by a diary in the pocket. It is difficult to say who is who of the others. A ship has been dispatched to make a further search. The ship Brakvaag arrived at Tromsoe. A hearse conveyed the remains of the explorers to the infirmary pending an examination. The party evidently had plenty of food, as some was found near Andree’s body. The log book suggests the balloon journey lasted only a few days, but the writing is almost illegible.
