A PIQUANT TOUCH
GRIMMETT INTRODUCED TO GOOGLY MASTER BANQUET TO CRICKETERS Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. Many famous cricket internationals were at the Metropole Hotel, Brighton, this evening at one of the happiest functions of the Australians’ tour, the occasion of Ranji’s banquet to the Australian and the Sussex teams. Gorgeously attired Indian servants belonging to the Jam Sahib Nawanagar’s retinue lent an Oriental touch to the festive assembly. Extraordinary tributes were paid to Woodfull as a great captain and a great gentleman. Ranji announced that he hoped to visit. Australia for the Test in 1932. A. C. MacLaren and Sir Home Gordon also expect to go, while Duleepsinhji is going to Australia to learn sheep-fhrming. it was most interesting to note the presence of the famous originator of the googly bowler, Bosanquet, and there was a piquant touch when he met Grimmett. Bosanquet’s first words were: "I am responsible for you.” After that Grimmett spent well into the early morning in the company of the old master. BRADMAN'S CONTRACTS EXPECT’S TO CLEAR £3,000 WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Some further light is thrown upon Don Bradman’s alleged breach of the terms of his contract with the Australian Board of Control by the following cablegram from London, which w'as published recently in Australia: Bradman’s talkie is a big attraction in London. He records admirably and demonstrates every stroke while discussing his cricket. Bradman’s business interests are of such magnitude that he has a manager arranging his contracts. This manager estimates that Bradman will clear £3,000 on the tour, not including the £650 from the Board of Control.
