FIZZLED OUT
SUSSEX MATCH DRAWN IN TAME FINISH AUSTRALIA DECLARES Reccl. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The match between Sussex and the Australians, like many other county fixtures, fizzled out to a draw. In fact, in the end, the game was almost reduced to a farce. Tate began irresistibly, taking three of the visitors’ wickets for 21 runs. Kippax and Richardson figured in a prominent stand, and made the Australians’ position safe. The last man, Hornibrook, kept the end up long enough to allow Kippax to reach the century, thus equalling Trumper, Bardsley, and Macartney, who are the only other Australians to score a century in each innings in England. Kippax batted 150 minutes, and hit nine fours, and gave a chanceless display. The county made 93 in the two hours which were left, when Richardson declared. AUSTRALIA.
