BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUBS’ COMBINED DANCE
ANNUAL FUNCTION AT BUCKLAND IS SUCCESSFUL The annual dance of the Buckland Bowling and Croquet Clubs held on Thursday evening was largely attended. Bright dance music was played by Miss Mary Pul man’s Orchestra. The bowling - club president, Mr. R. Fulton, presented the trophies won during the season as follow:—Championship, Mrs. Heath; runner-up, Mrs. Bullock; championship pairs, Mesdames Bullock and McNally; runners-up, Mrs. Walker and Miss riggott; lower singles, Mrs. Seeley; lower pairs, Mesdames Seeley and Jefferis; progressive A, Mrs. Bullock; runner-up, Mrs. Wa.lker; progressive B, Mrs. McNally; runner-up, Mrs. Bilkey. The bowling club’s championship medals for A and B grades were presented to Messrs. R. Wright and F. Steele respectively. Among those present were: Mrs. H. KITCHEN EVENING MANY PRESENTATIONS FOR DARGAVILLE BRIDE-ELECT .Miss Lucy Marchbanks, of Dargavillc, was the guest of honour at a very largely attended kitchen evening at the Hibernian Hall, Mangawhare, on Thursday evening. Aliss Marchbanks Is to be married in Auckland to Air. Lawrence Dermott Hackett, of Aratapu. His Worship the Mayor, Mr. F. A. Jones, presided, and the hostesses were Mesdames F. A. Jones, A. Anderson and E. Martindale. The guests were entertained with dancing interspersed with items. Those who contributed to the programme were:—Misses Alary and Florrie Alatich, Alisses Condon (2), Aliss Winnie Dean, Aliss Mary Yakas, Aliss Esma Fischer; Aliss Pauline Jones was the accompanist; Aliss Olga Franich, dance solos; Aliss O’Shea, recitation; Air. McClusky, solo; Air. A. J. Alartin, recitation. The dance music was played by Airs. Davidson. The Rev. Father W. van Westenide presented the guest of the evening with a tea set. set of carvers, and a teapot, on behalf of the parishioners. Other speakers were Air. Jones, Air. A. ,T. Martin, on behalf of the Hibernian Lodge. Brother Robert Lunney, president of the lodge, made a presentation to Miss Marchbanks, on behalf of its members. SOCIAL EVENING FAREWELL TO PRESBYTERIAN HOME MISSIONARY The Rev. T. H. Roseveare presided over a largo attendance of members of the Alanurewa Presbyterian Church and their friends at an evening for Air. and Airs. W. H. Carroll and family, held in the church hall on Thursday evening. Air. Carroll, who has received notice of his transfer to Otaki, to open a new station, occupied the pulpit at Alanurewa lor the last occasion on Sunday. The chairman spoke of the services given to the district by both Air. and Airs. Carroll and wished them every success in their pew sphere. Other speakers were Air. Wall, on behalf of the session; Air. C. S. McCallum, management committee; Airs. Aliddieton, Ladies’ Guild; Air. Geo. Clarke, Sunday school and Weymouth district; Air. J. Enabling, Brookby; Air. J. Aluir, Alfriston; the Rev. F. Dobson, Anglican Church, and the Rev. Air. Martin, Methodist Church. On behalf of the congregations of the combined district. Air. Wall presented the guests with a writing desk and beautiful dinner and tea services, and Mrs. Carroll# received a dainty bouquet from Airs. Middleton on behalf of the members of the Ladies’ Guild. During the evening items were contributed by Aliss Lilias, pianoforte solo; Aladam Aileen Frost, vocal solo; Air. Sanderson, instrumental solo; Aliss Foulkes, vocal solo; Air.
