CONNECTION WITH PORT

CHRISTCHURCH PROBLEM LYTTELTON LINE CONTROL Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Lyttelton Harbour Board had before it today the report of the commission which investigated problems of access to the sea affecting Christchurch, with special reference to a scheme for the construction of a tunnel road to the port and amother scheme for a harbour in the Heathcote Estuary, Sumner. The commission rejected both proposals on the grounds of the cost, but recommended that for greater effi ciency the board should have control ol the port line. Harbour Board members today rejected this proposal, declaring that the acquisition of the line and sorting sheds and shunting yards at Christchurch would be enormously costly.
