REGENT
“THIS MAD WORLD” The attractive Kay Johnson, who made an auspicious screen debut in "Dynamite” and followed it up with a remarkable performance in “The Ship From Shanghai,’’ is seen again at the Regent Theatre this week in “This Mad World.” Co-featured in the production with Miss Johnson are Basil Rathbone and Louise Dresser and it may be said that all three players give stellar performances in extremely exacting roles. The picture which the programme lists as having been adapted by Clara Beranger from the French drama, “Terre Inhumaine.” depicts an interlude occurring behind the German lines during the World War. William de Mille, director 1 of the production, has filmed the picture from a. dramatic viewpoint even to the extent of restricting the time of action between the hours of four o’clock of one afternoon and ten the next morning. This compression of time and action gives the picture a certain tenseness and sharpness exactly suitable to its unusual character. A special children’s matinee is being held every morning this week at 11, when “Mickey the Mouse” and other cartoons are screened in conjunction with the comedy “Square Shoulders.” I I
