CONDUCT OF HOTELS
S.M. WARNS LICENSEES VALUE OF POLICE REPORT Press Association . WELLINGTON, Today. That if reports were unfavourable licensees must not think they could get a renewal of their licences was the warning given by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the quarterly meeting of the Wellington Licensing Committee yesterday. Mr. Page referred to the fact that the police reports showed that a number of licensees Jiad been convicted during the last three months. The police pointed out that two licensees had had more than one conviction and they had brought themselves within the provisions of section 253 of the Licensing Act, which made their licences liable to cancellation. The police also said there had been a number of instances where bookmakers had been carrying on business in hotels and suggested conduct of licensees referred to was either wilful or careless. The police further suggested judicial notice should he taken of those hotels when a renewal of the licences was applied for in June next.
