STATISTICS FOR AUGUST INCREASE IN DEATHS Only 221 babies were born last month as against 259 in August, 1929, according to the vital statistics for Auckland. Last month showed a small increase in deaths and a decrease in marriages as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. For the first eight months of the present year a considerable decrease in births and a small decrease in deaths is shown as compared with the first eight months of 1929. There has been a marked increase in the number of marriages, and also in the number of marriage ceremonies performed by the registrar. Following are the figures for the first eight months of 1930, the figures for the corresponding period of 1929 being given in parentheses:—Births, 1,861 (2,011); deaths, 1,189 (1,203): marriages, 1,407 (1,328); marriages by registrar 357 (309).
