ST. AIDAN’S, REMUERA
PARISH CELEBRATES ITS 25TH YEAR * PATRONAL FESTIVAL ALSO Yesterday was a milestone in the history of St. Aldan’s parish, Remuera, the church celebrating its 25th anniversary and also the festival of its patron saint, St. Aidan. Very large congregations attended at the early service of the Holy Communion and the 11 a.m. Mattins. The celebrant at the former service was Bishop Anderson, who w-as sometime Bishop of Riverina, Australia, and who is now in retirement. The preacher at Mattins was Canon E. H. Strong, formerly chaplain of King’s College, and now vicar of St. Mary's, New Plymouth. A number of King’s old boys were present at this service. At noon Holy Communion was celebrated by Canon H. K. Archdall, headmaster of King’s College, a large number of worshippers receiving the sacrament. There was a children’s service in the afternoon conducted by the vicar, the Rev. H. A. Coleman. Another large congregation was present at evensong, the preacher being Archdeacon G. Mac Murray, vicar-general of the diocese. A social will he held in the parish hall this evening and one for children on Wednesday evening.
JESUS, THE CHRIST “Christ Jesus” w-as the subject of j the lesson-sermon in First Church of j Christ, Scientist, Auckland, yesterday. The golden text was from I. John iv., 14, “We have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to he the Saviour of the World.” Among the citations was the following from the Bible: “Then came the Jews round about Him, and said unto Him, ‘How long dost Thou make us to doubt? If Thou be the Christ, tel’ us plainly.’ Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and ye believed not; the works that I do in My Father’s name they bear witness of Me’.” —John, x., 24-25. The lesson-sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, “If we wish to follow Christ, Who is truth, It must be in the way of God’s appointing. Jesus said, ‘He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also.’ We must forsake tho foundation of material systems, however time-honoured, if we would gain the Christ as our only Saviour. Not partially, but fully, the great Healer of mortal mind is the Healer of the body.”
