SHOT IN BACK

SENSATIONAL END TO CRICKET MATCH BATSMAN HIT BY BULLET Just as he hit a fourer in a cricket match between two teams of unemployed off Wiley’s Avenue, Lakemba, yesterday afternoon, Thomas King, of Warwick Street, Punchebowl, fell with a bullet between his shoulders, says the Sydney “Guardian” of August 22. No report was heard, and just as the other players reached King, another bullet whizzed over their heads. They carried him to safety, and took refuge around a corner. TIN TARGET Later on it was discovered that a man was shooting with a Winchester at a tin on a post in his backyard, 200 yards away. He said he had no idea the bullets would carry so far. King is in Canterbury District Hospital.
