PERMITS FOR AUGUST £42,000 FOR NEW HOTEL. Although the registration of a contract of £42.000 for the erection of Hancock and Company's new hotel in Beach Road, opposite the new railway station, is included among the building permits issued by the CityCouncil for August, the total for the month of £101,830 is more than £IO.OOO below the total for August of last year. It represents, however, an advance of more than £35.000 on the. figure for July last. The total number of permits issued was 196. tut those for houses have only been 16, as agaiust 44 issued for new dwellings in August of last year. Two of the largest permits for houses are £3.900 for one in Re mu era. and another of £4.977 in Paratai Drive. Although the permit for the new hotel, is the chief feature of those issued for August, another of som<=» consequence is for the erection of shops and offices in K&r&ngahape Road at a contract price of £B,BOO. The contract for the foundations of the Electric-Power Board’s sub-station at King’s Wharf has been let at £6.334. A block of four flats is to be erected in Cracroft Street for £3,900. and one of six flats in Park Road for £3.500. Following are total values of permits for the first eight months of 1930 and 1929:
