CUSTOMS REVENUE LOWER AT AUCKLAND PETROL-TAX YIELDS MORE The Customs revenue collected at Auckland during August was £36,838 less than in the corresponding month of last year. On the other hand the petrol-tax revenue showed an increase of £11,637. The sum collected from Customs and tyre duties, and pet.rol-tax, amounted to £207.199 during the past month, compared with £293,238 from these three sources in August. 1929. The returns for the month, together with those for August last year, are as follow: i9;:o. 1929. Customs £228,710 £££5,418 Motor spirit .. .. 36,385 L'4,748 Motor tyres .. .. 2,104 2,942 An analysis of the returns for the eight months ended on Saturday shows that, the Customs revenue amounting to £1,472,017 is £53,262 less than for the corresponding period of last year. On the other hand the returns from petrol and tyre duties are £38,9/69 higher. The figures for the eight months, together with those of last year, are as follow:

The excise duty for the first eight months this year is £4,54 9 less than for the corresponding period of 1929. The total revenue from this source to date this year is £73,091, compared with £77,640 during the similar period of 1929. WELLINGTON INCREASE FIGURES UP BY £10,500 Press Association _ WELLINGTON, Sunday. The Customs duty collected at the Port of Wellington in August was more than £10,500 in excess of the total for August, 1929. All-round increases were also recorded in respect of beer duty, tyre-tax and petrol-tax. The detailed figures are as follow; Customs duty. £247,834; neer duty, £3,801; tyre-tax, £3,016; petrol-tax, £33,001. CHRISTCHURCH FIGURES INCREASE OF £6,324 Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. There was an increase in the net Customs duties collected at Christchurch during August of £6,324, as compared with August, 1929. The net Customs duties in August, 1930, totalled £110,114 (August, 1929, £103,790). From January to August, 1930. the total was £711,857 (1929, £763,383); beer duty, August, 1930, £6,103 (August, 1929, £5,707); beer duty, January to August, 1930, £57,576 (1929, £57,852); motor spirittax, August, 1930, £12,410 (August, 1929, £9,897); January to August, 1930, £94,002 (1929, £92,404).
