The University of Winnipeg lias conferred the honorary degree of doctor of law on 10 delegates to the conference, eight of whom are British, including Sir James Barrett, of Melbourne. Sir James states that all the documents respecting Dr. Cherry, of Melbourne, and his cancer research work, are to be forwarded to the British Medical Journal in London, with a request for their sympathetic consideration and publication. HOSPITAL SYSTEM WRONG 1 In an address to the conference. Sir James Barrett declared that the whole of the present hospital system of the world was wrong, and shockingly expensive. Sir James explained how skilled nursing attendance had been placed within the reach of the people in the sparsely settled areas of Australia’s bush country. He said it had grown from a mere nursing scheme into a great hospital system. It was a co-operative insurance scheme which provided for inevitable visits to hospitals. Sir James said hospitals should be built on a similar plan.
