CHILDREN’S DANCE

COSTUME PARTY AT RUAWAI

A large number of children participated in the fancy dress dance held at Ruawai on Friday evening. The function was organised by the teaching staff of the Ruawai District High School, and was held in the Rialto Theatre. The proceeds are to be applied to assist the school ground improvement fund. The judges. Dr. Margaret Roper, Airs. W. O’Malley and Miss Kingsley, had an exceedingly difficult task in allocating the prizes, the following awards being made: Best fancy dress, senior girl. Heather Laing, as “Cleopatra"; senior boy. Ronald Swales, “Red Indian”: junior girl, Da.wn Finiayson- "Golden Butterfly”: junior boy. Jack Alexander. Felix the Cat. Alost original costume, girl, Olga Smith, Doll in Box: boy, Valmar Aleale. Bowser Pump. Best poster costume, girl, Doreen Parker, Chesdale Cheese; boy, Ronald Wallace, Flit.

Special awards: Joan Corner, Nestles: Rosa McGowan, Victorian Lady; Doreen Brown, Fluffy Ruffles; Ben Preston, Dutch Boy; Howard Shepherd, Rajah of Sarawak; Violet McCarthy, Violet Girl: Tom Carter, Alin ties; Rosaleen McCarthy, Minties; Molly McGowan, Ruawai Butter. The music was played by Afessrs. S. Blanchfield, G. Fitness and Aliss Ivey.
