POWER SUPPLIES

INCREASE IN COSTS KING’S WHARF STATION The increase in cost of the Auckland Power Board's supplies of power owing to the breakdown at Arapuni, resulted in a conference yesterday between the representatives of the board and the Public Works Department. The department was represented by Mr. J. E. Gavey. inspecting electrical engineer, of Wellington, and Mr. T. MacLennan, district electrical engineer, of Hamilton. The .Power Board was represented by the chairman, Mr. W. J. Holds worth, and the general manager, Mr. It. IT. Bartley. According to one of the representatives of the conference, the Minister of Public Works had said that the power boards would have to pay no more for their supplies because of the breakdown at Arapuni. It would not be known for some time, however, what the additional cost would be of operating King’s Wharf station, but the board had prepared a basis which had been submited to the department's officers. This was fully explained in the discussion with the department’s officers yesterday, and it would be placed before the Minister of Public Works in Wellington for consideration. •
