Clash of Dates With Trotting
Te Kuiti’s Difficulty A SUCCESSFUL YEAR Special to THE SUN TE KUITI, Friday. A profit of £235 0s 8d was made on the race meeting held at its Te Kumi course by the Te Kuiti Racing Club on November 23 and 25 last, according to the president’s report presented at the annual general meeting of the club, which was held at Te Kuiti this evening. The clashing of the last fixture with the 'Otahuhu Trotting Club on the first day adversely affeoted the totalisator returns, these being £1,092 less than on the corresponding day of the previous meeting. The second day, however, proved more successful, and £2,544 more was put through the tote than on the second day of the last meeting. The total investments for 1929 were £27,316, as compared with £25,864 in 1928—an increase of £1,452. Increase in Mem6ership The thanks of the club were due to the Railway Department for stopping the daylight Limited express from Auckland at Te Kumi on both race days, thus providing a most convenient service. After making ample provision for bad debts and depreciation, the revenue account showed a profit of £SB 17s 2d, as against a loss of £693 30s 9d for the previous year. Members’ subscriptions were an outstanding feature of the financial statement, a very marked increase being recorded. The thanks of the club were duo to the members of the committee and to Mr. A. D. McLennan, whose success in the campaign for new members was very gratifying. Sul^scri ptions were the backbone of the club’s revenue, and in the event of an unsuccessful meeting provided an assured fund with which to carry on. A further effort to increase the membership will be made during the coming year. Next Race Meeting
The dates approved by the Racing Conference for the present season’s racing are November 22 and 24. At a meeting of representatives of the Auckland Country Clubs Association an endeavour was made to arrange a circuit of the South Auckland clubs, and the dates suggested for Te Kuiti were December 13 and 15. The proposed circuit was not acceptable to all the clubs concerned and the committee agreed to waive its claim to these dates. At that time negotiations for the merger of the Auckland and Otahuhu Trotting Clubs had begun and it was not thought that Otahuhu Club would be racing in November, so the To Kuiti Club made application for November 22 and 24. As the Otahuhu Club has been granted November 20 and 22, the Te Kuiti Club will either have to clash with them on the first day or find some other date later in the season. This will present some difficulty, as every week-end before the winter is engaged by an Auckland provincial club either for galloping or trotting.
The Government taxes pair amounted to the sum of £2,069 14s 4d
j comprising: Totalisator-tax, £682 18s: | dividend duty, £1,229 4s sd; stakestax, £ll2 ss; amusement-tax, £45 lid. President Re-elected ! Mr. IT. Rothery was re-elected president and Messrs. R. Boddy, B. P. H ! Brewer and W. Hogg elected vice'I presidents. At the conclusion of the meeting the annual reunion of members was held.
