“AMENDMENT NEEDED”
CHILD WELFARE ACT At the fortnightly meeting of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, held at the Y.W.C.A. yesterday afternoon, correspondence was read from the international secretary at Geneva, regarding affairs in Samoa and India. With reference to Samoa, it was decided to continue the work already begun, and, as regards India, to endorse the recommendation expressed in the telegram sent to the British Prime Minister, the Viceroy of India and Mahatma Gandhi hoping for a peaceful solution of Indian problems, urging a truce to secure co-operation in conference, the withdrawal of repressive measures and the granting of an amnesty; and begging the Indians to ssupend disobedience. After a discussion on Child Welfare questions. the following resolution was passed unanimously:—“That this league has grave reasons to believe that the Child Welfare Act of 1925 requires investigation with a view to amending certain clauses.”
