UNSUCCESSFUL THIEF

ATTEMPT TO ENTER OFFICES CELLAR WINDOW BROKEN An unsuccessful attempt was made last evening to enter the office of S. Jowett and Co., Ltd., wine merchants, St. Kevin’s Arcade, Karangahape Road. A constable from the Newton Station found a window broken about one o’clock this morning. The thief had removed the putty from a cellar window and removed the glass from one pane, but was unable to open the whole window. The premises had been previously entered, and the window catches were strengthened, a change that was thoroughly justified by this morning's incident.
